Unveiling a Shocking Tragedy: Hotel Employee's Alleged Torture Death Ignites Urgent Investigation

In the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, a shocking incident has unfolded, involving the alleged torture and subsequent death of a young woman named Nnnena Onu, employed at a hotel in Ebocha. The tragic event transpired after she failed to account for a sum of ₦17,500.

According to reports, Nnnena Onu was confined to a room within the hotel premises without access to food or water. The relentless ordeal took its toll on her, leading to exhaustion and causing her to lose consciousness. Despite eventually paying the disputed amount, she desperately pleaded with her employer to release her on the third day due to her weakening condition. Tragically, her pleas fell on deaf ears.

After she passed out, Nnnena Onu was rushed to a nearby hospital, but, regrettably, she did not survive.

However, conflicting accounts have emerged from individuals in the area who claim that she merely "slumped" on her own and was subsequently taken to the hospital, where she tragically passed away.

The Rivers State Civil Society Organisations have responded to the incident, urging the State Police Command to launch a swift investigation. Chairman of the State CSO, Enefaa Georgewill, addressed the media in Port Harcourt, emphasizing the importance of identifying and bringing to justice any individuals found responsible for the torture and death of Miss Nnnena Onu.

Georgewill stated, "The Rivers State Civil Society Organisations call on the State Commissioner of Police to investigate, arrest, and prosecute all those involved in the torture and subsequent death of Miss Nnnena Onu, a staff member of Wayouma Hotel in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA."

He described the incident as deeply unfortunate and vowed that the CSO would not rest until justice was served. He further expressed his outrage at the inhumane treatment inflicted upon Nnnena Onu, comparing it to the atrocities suffered by slaves in centuries past.

Georgewill urged the police not to politicize or sweep this matter under the carpet, stressing the need for a thorough investigation and the application of relevant laws on torture and murder. The Rivers CSO chairman underscored that they were closely monitoring the situation.

When approached for comment, the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, acknowledged awareness of the incident but stated she was yet to gather the details. She promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer and provide further information, but as of the time of reporting, no response had been received.
