35 Artillery Brigade Deals Heavy Blow to Drug Traffickers, Seizes 176KG of Cannabis in Ogun


Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria - In a significant blow to local drug trafficking, the Nigerian Army's 35 Artillery Brigade intercepted a large quantity of cannabis and apprehended a suspect in Ogun State. Brigadier General Mohammed Tajudeen Aminu, Commander of the Brigade, handed over the haul - a staggering 365 packages of cannabis sativa weighing approximately 176 kilograms - to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday, January 11, 2024.




The operation stemmed from a routine patrol by troops on January 6th, 2024, along the Imeko-Abeokuta road near Olodo Imeko. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was apprehended at the scene with the illicit cargo neatly packed in "pawpaw-sized" packages.



Colonel Legborsi Deedum Nule, Garrison Commander and representative of Brigadier General Aminu, reiterated the Brigade's unwavering commitment to collaborating with other security agencies in combating crime within the state. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the military and the NDLEA, highlighting the Brigade's dedication to maintaining high standards and professionalism among its troops in the execution of their duties.




Commander Jane Ibiba Odili, head of the NDLEA Ogun State Command, lauded the Brigade's efforts and urged even stronger collaboration between the military and other security agencies in tackling the drug trade within the state. Odili commended the soldiers' vigilance and swift action, noting that this successful operation will significantly disrupt local drug trafficking networks.
