NPC and Defence Space Administration Team Up to Boost Data Integrity and Security

In a promising development for data-driven planning and national security, the National Population Commission (NPC) and the Defence Space Administration (DSA) have agreed to collaborate on improving data integrity and sharing crucial information.

Yesterday, NPC Chairman Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra welcomed Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Abdullahi Shinkaffi, Chief of Defence Space Administration, and his team during a courtesy visit at the NPC headquarters. The visit marked the start of a potential partnership that could have significant implications for Nigeria's future.

The Chief of Defence Space Administration commended NPC for its impressive achievements in data generation, particularly the establishment of a national geospatial data repository. He expressed DSA's keen interest in working with the commission to further enhance data quality and reliability, ultimately contributing to evidence-based planning and national development.

Air Vice Marshal Shinkaffi outlined potential areas of collaboration, including:

  • Information sharing through technology integration: Both organizations would leverage their respective technological capabilities to seamlessly share data and resources, promoting greater efficiency and accuracy.
  • Capacity building: The DSA would offer expertise and training to NPC personnel, strengthening their data management skills and ensuring long-term sustainability of the collaboration.

NPC Chairman Hon. Kwarra warmly welcomed the proposed partnership, stressing the importance of closer cooperation between the two entities. He emphasized the potential for NPC and DSA to become formidable allies in the fight against insecurity by providing and sharing crucial data for strategic planning and decision-making.

Recognizing the need for swift action, Hon. Kwarra proposed the immediate formation of a joint technical committee. This committee would be tasked with identifying concrete areas of collaboration, developing an implementation plan, and overseeing the execution of the partnership.

This collaboration between NPC and DSA represents a significant step forward in harnessing the power of data for national development and security. By combining their expertise and resources, the two organizations have the potential to make a substantial impact on Nigeria's future.

The joint effort is expected to:

  • Improve the quality and availability of data for evidence-based decision-making across various sectors.
  • Enhance national security through better data-driven planning and intelligence gathering.
  • Foster greater inter-agency cooperation and information sharing.
  • Ultimately contribute to a more secure, prosperous, and data-driven Nigeria.
