NSCDC Receives Drones and Gadgets to Boost Security, Partners Pledge Further Collaboration
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has received a significant boost in its surveillance and security capabilities with the donation of three drones and 100 high-tech communication gadgets from international partners. This move comes as part of the Corps' ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of lives, property, and critical national assets and infrastructure.
The donation, facilitated by the Equipping the Needy Initiative (ETNI), was received by Commandant General Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who expressed his gratitude for the kind gesture. He praised ETNI for demonstrating that security is a collaborative effort and remarked on their commitment to fulfilling promises made during a previous visit.
Dr. Audi assured that the donated equipment will be used optimally, with the communication center envisioned as a central hub for coordinating national operations. He further highlighted the NSCDC's role in safeguarding liberated areas and providing security for IDP camps.
The CEO of ETNI, Dr. Benedict Aliku, reaffirmed the organization's commitment to supporting the NSCDC and underscored the philosophy of shared responsibility in security matters. He announced plans to explore further areas of collaboration, including constructing IDP shelters in five states and a national communication command center.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of an award to Dr. Audi in recognition of his dedication to combating crime and ensuring the safety of Nigerians. Additionally, the Commandant in charge of the Counter Terrorism Unit expressed gratitude for the equipment and pledged to utilize it effectively in line with international best practices.
The delegation, including passionate US citizens with expertise in security and journalism, later visited the proposed site for the construction of the Counter Terrorism Response and Communication Centre.
This development reflects a positive step towards enhanced security in Nigeria, with the NSCDC receiving valuable resources and strengthening its partnership with international stakeholders. The donated equipment and planned projects are expected to contribute significantly to improved surveillance, crime prevention, and protection of vulnerable populations.
