Ghana Mourns Bodyguard as Second Lady Recovers from Shock of Convoy Crash


Accra, Ghana - January 13, 2024 - Second Lady Samira Bawumia narrowly escaped unharmed yesterday in a road accident involving her convoy on the Kumasi-Accra highway. Sadly, one of her bodyguards, A.A. Fuseini, lost his life in the collision.


The incident occurred near Ohene-Nkwanta village, close to Nobewam. According to initial reports, a commercial vehicle swerved into the convoy, causing a chain reaction crash involving multiple vehicles.


While Mrs. Bawumia remained unhurt, Mr. Fuseini succumbed to his injuries at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was airlifted alongside other casualties. The remaining members of the convoy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving medical attention.



President Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased bodyguard and ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.


Second Lady Bawumia, in a statement to the press, expressed her profound grief at the loss of Mr. Fuseini, calling him a dedicated and selfless member of her security detail. She also extended her prayers to his family and colleagues.
